3rd St at Sunset Blvd Reopens to Traffic
3rd Street at Sunset Blvd reopened to traffic on Thursday, July 25, four days ahead of schedule.
Site cleanup and demobilization continue, with striping in the extended left turn lane on Sunset to 3rd to be finalized the week of July 29.
The left turn lane on Sunset Blvd. onto 3rd St. now has has a capacity for 18 cars, doubled from the previous nine, which quickly filled up during peak traffic hours. In addition, the previous valley gutter drainage has been updated, ending the need for cars to slow down before crossing from Sunset Blvd. to Third St.
The upgrades will reduce traffic congestion during peak hours significantly.
“A longer turning pocket will improve vehicle flow on Sunset and allow for faster and safe movement of cars turning from Sunset Blvd. to Third St.,” Public Services manager Matt McClure said at the start of the project.
