News

Traffic Alert: Midas Avenue Closure (May 1–2, 2025)

As part of the Rocklin Pipeline Replacement Project, Midas Avenue is closed to all traffic between Second Street and Argonaut Road on May 1 and 2 for asphalt grinding. This work is in preparation for final paving, which is anticipated to take place Friday, May 3.

During paving, one-way traffic will be allowed through the construction zone. Please expect delays and use alternate routes if possible. Flaggers will be on site to safely direct traffic.

About the Project: Providing Long-Term Water Reliability for Rocklin Residents

The Placer County Water Agency (PCWA) is leading a vital infrastructure project to replace aging water mains along Midas Avenue between Second Street and Argonaut Road in the City of Rocklin.

Why This Matters

The existing water infrastructure, including steel pipes installed in 1963 and coated with cement mortar, has reached the end of its operational life. A pattern of leaks and mainline failures over the past few years has made it critical to upgrade the system to ensure the continued delivery of safe, reliable drinking water to Rocklin residents.

Project Scope

  • Phase 1 of the project involves:
  • Replacing the mainline with new 12″ water pipes
  • Installing service laterals and meter boxes
  • Trenching, backfilling, and temporary paving
  • Final paving and road striping after all sections are complete
  • Construction is being performed in sections to minimize traffic disruption.

Timeline

Phase 1 began: October 2024

Anticipated completion: Early Summer 2025

Paving timeline: April 14 – May 9, 2025 (weather permitting)

Project Background

This project was originally scheduled for August 2023 but was delayed due to supply chain issues involving essential components like brass fittings and valves. Additionally, PCWA adjusted the timeline in response to the severe storms of 2023 to reduce disruptions for residents.

As a result, Phase 2 (Clover Valley to Argonaut Road) was completed first, in July 2024.

Phase 1 estimated cost: $3.1 million

Total multi-phase investment: $24 million

Funding: PCWA ratepayers and the City of Rocklin

This investment will provide Rocklin with a modern, durable, and efficient water infrastructure system designed to serve the community for decades.
