Sierra Elementary Students Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in Latest “Student Art in City Hall” Exhibit

The City of Rocklin and the Rocklin Arts Commission are proud to unveil the latest installation in the Student Art in City Hall Program, featuring artwork from the talented fourth-grade students at Sierra Elementary School.

Sierra Elementary, an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme school, engages its students through concept-based inquiry and exploration. This fall, in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Sierra’s Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) students studied the rich artistic traditions and cultural contributions of Hispanic Americans.

Throughout September and October, students explored themes of heritage, symbolism, and storytelling through art, drawing inspiration from the Mexican folk art tradition of Amate bark painting. Their colorful and imaginative works reflect both the beauty of this centuries-old art form and the creativity of Rocklin’s young artists.

The Student Art in City Hall Program, a collaboration between the Rocklin Arts Commission and the Rocklin Unified School District, offers local students the opportunity to showcase their art in a public setting. Each exhibit transforms the foyer outside the City Council Chambers into a vibrant gallery space, connecting the community with the creativity and perspectives of its youth.

The City of Rocklin extends its sincere appreciation to Sierra Elementary’s educators and the RUSD Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) program for their continued partnership in celebrating arts education.

Stop by Rocklin City Hall to view the current exhibit and enjoy the inspiring works from Sierra Elementary’s fourth-grade artists. This colorful collection not only honors Hispanic Heritage Month but also celebrates the power of art to connect cultures and communities.
