Message from Terry The fall issue of the e-Biz Newsletter announces the availability of the 5th annual Rocklin Community Profile, consisting of the three documents noted below. The documents provide a detailed look at the City's vital statistics addressing quality of life, service availability, economic climate, and much more about Rocklin and its region. As expected, due to the current economic slowdown, most economic indicators are down for 2008/2009 and are expected to remain low during the first part of 2010. On the positive side, the indicators that attract businesses and future residents remain positive. Those indicators include low crime rate, and high test scores at all school levels. In addition, Rocklin's unemployment rate remains relatively low when compared with the State-wide average. The cumulative data contained in the Rocklin Community Profile is just a small part of what will eventually be used by the City in its anticipated preparation of an economic development strategic plan. The need for an economic plan was recently proposed by a City Task Force consisting of representatives from all City departments. The Rocklin City Council accepted the recommendation and made economic development its top priority for the next year. The plan will identify and build support for viable new economic businesses and needed strategies to retain and attract businesses to Rocklin. Preparation of the plan will start in mid 2010. Terry A. Richardson, Assistant City Manager, City of Rocklin
