DEVELOPMENT Non-Residential Blue Oaks Cinema - The Blue Oaks Stadium 16 Cinema is still moving forward and is anticipating opening in November 2010. The cinema will occupy the former Mervyn's building at Lonetree Blvd and Blue Oaks Blvd. SR Entertainment Group will be converting the building into a 3,000 seated 3D and all-digital technology theatre.
SMA Expanding - SMA America, a leading manufacturer of solar inverters, is relocating its U.S. headquarters to a new building located at 6020 West Oaks Blvd, Rocklin. SMA will retain its current warehouse/service center on Alvis Court. The move is expected to be complete by mid-summer and will provide the necessary facilities for continued regional development. The company currently has a staff of approximately 70 employees but expects to increase that number in the future. Infrastructure Rocklin Road Roundabouts - At their recent meeting, the Rocklin City Council gave direction to City Staff to plan for future roundabouts at major Rocklin Road intersections between the I-80 interchange and Pacific Street. The first roundabout will be installed at the Rocklin Road/Meyers Street intersection. Roundabouts provide efficient movement of traffic and are safer than conventional traffic signals. Sierra College Blvd Widening - Phase I of the widening of Sierra College Blvd (currently under construction) encompasses the area from Granite Drive south to El Don Drive (1.1 miles). A recent agreement with the Town of Loomis will enable Phase II to move forward. Phase II includes the portion of Sierra College Blvd., from Granite Drive to Taylor Road. The completion date for the southern section to El Don Drive (Phase I) is scheduled for August 2010. Funding is provided by South Placer Regional Transportation Authority (SPARTA) and Rocklin Traffic Impact Fees. The northern portion (Phase II) is anticipated to be completed by November 2010, with funding provided by SPARTA and the Town of Loomis. Residential Housing Element - The Rocklin City Council approved the 2008-2013 Rocklin Housing Element on March 9, 2010. The Housing Element is a plan on how the City will meet its housing needs for all economic segments of the community. It lists various existing programs and new programs that will be undertaken by the City, developers, and non-profit organizations to provide housing. Having worked closely with the State Department of Housing and Community Development, the City expects to receive certification of the Housing Element by the State within 90 days.
